Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Five young people cross the Texas countryside in their mini van. But their little road trip turns into a nightmare when they have to stop in a small village lost in the middle of nowhere. Between strange and deadly encounters, the young heroes will have to fight for their lives. The film was entitled to several sequels, including that of 2022 whose story takes place several years after the first part.

Halloween (1978)

It all starts on Halloween night. Young Michael Myers is committed to a mental asylum after savagely stabbing his sister. Fifteen years later, he escapes to return to his hometown and continue what he started. Halloween night turns into a real massacre. The franchise has a total of fourteen films, with the youngest releasing on October 14.

Alien, the 8th passenger (1979)

When they detect sound signals somewhere in space, the passengers of a space freighter decide to take a detour to check what it is. A decision they will soon regret when an unwanted passenger sneaks into the ship on the way out. The SF/Horror marriage immediately won over the public and Alien was entitled to many sequels.

The Shining (1980)

Jack Torrance, a hotel concierge is assigned to a deserted and isolated establishment for a winter. He moved there with his wife and young son, Danny. The stay turns into a nightmare when Jack gradually loses his mind. A sequel, “Doctor Sleep”, was released in 2019.

Friday the 13th (1980)

In a seemingly banal holiday camp, a terrible serial killer is raging. At nightfall, the latter hunts down and massacres the young monitors. But who is it and why this holiday camp in particular? Really popular with the public, the saga has twelve films, including a few crossovers with Freddy Kruger, the murderous bogeyman of the Nightclaws franchise.

Evil Dead (1981)

A group of friends are spending the holidays in a cabin lost in the woods. They discover there a strange tape recorder which they turn on: a serious mistake, because it awakens evil creatures who possess the living. The film marks the beginning of a long and prolific franchise.

The Thing (1982)

In the heart of Antarctica, a group of scientists discover a strange creature frozen in the ice. Returned to life, the Thing takes on the appearance of whoever it wants, sowing confusion among the researchers and paranoia sets in: who is human and who is not? A prequel was released in 2011.

Poltergeist (1982)

The quiet daily life of the Freeling family is disturbed by the appearance of strange and frightening phenomena in their house. The furniture moves on its own and the youngest mysteriously disappears into the TV! So what is this entity and what does it have in store for the Freelings?

The Claws of the Night (1984)

A group of teenagers are hunted down in their dreams by a mysterious killer with a horribly burned and disfigured face. To escape him, they must above all not fall asleep… but easier said than done. How will they escape this elusive bogeyman? Yet another film that brought to life a horror franchise that is now a must-have for thrill seekers.

Hellraiser (1987)

Frank, a man in search of new pleasures, buys a mysterious box that sends him into a world of lust and suffering. But when his brother moves in and a small drop of blood falls on the floor, Frank returns to the world of the living. A Frank hungry for flesh and blood… The franchise currently has eleven films, including a reboot released this year.

Child’s Play (1988)

Little Andy gets a big doll for his birthday. But his happiness quickly turns into a nightmare when he discovers that the toy is able to speak and think for itself. The doll is in fact possessed by a serial killer and the latter really wants to have fun… This film marks the beginning of the Chucky franchise, the deadliest killer doll in cinema.

Scream (1996)

A sleepy little town in California is plagued by the bloody crimes of a gruesome serial killer. Dressed in a ghost costume, the latter takes on a gang of teenagers, including the pretty Sydney. With her friends, the latter will fight for her life, while trying to unmask their executioner. The film was entitled to five sequels, a sixth is expected for next year.

Final Destination (2000)

Alex and his classmates are about to fly to Paris, but he has a terrible vision: the plane is going to explode mid-flight. Taken in panic, he tries to warn the passengers, but he is disembarked with some students and teachers. Unexpectedly, the device does explode in the sky, but Alex and his friends are far from saved. The franchise is made up of five films.

The Ring (2002)

Rachel, an intrepid journalist, investigates the suspicious death of her niece. She discovers that the latter had watched a mysterious tape with her friends, all of whom die seven days later, at exactly the same time. Rachel who also watched the tape has exactly seven days to find a way to break the curse. The film had two sequels in 2005 and 2017.

Wrong Turn (2003)

When a young student decides to take a shortcut to get to his destination faster, he has no idea that the detour in question is… deadly. The story follows a group of young people, stuck in a forest and attacked by deformed and belligerent beings. Hunted relentlessly, they will have to fight to survive. The franchise has seven films in total, released between 2003 and 2021.

Saw (2004)

Two men wake up in a disused bathroom. Chained to the wall, only one of them can make it out alive. So decided Jigsaw, a mysterious serial killer who kidnaps his victims and confronts them with psychological tests where they must make dastardly (and painful) choices if they want to live. The saga is made up of nine films, the ten will arrive next year.

The Grudge (2004)

In the heart of Tokyo is a small house that seems peaceful at first sight, but which actually hides a terrible curse. Anyone who enters it is cursed and will die after suffering terrible torments. The story thus follows Karen, a young caregiver, who lives a real nightmare when the curse falls on her. This is a horror trilogy, plus a 2020 reboot.

Silent Hill (2006)

Rose is worried about her daughter Sharon, the little girl is indeed haunted by strange dreams about an abandoned town called Silent Hill. Rose decides to go there with Sharon to try to understand. But once there, Sharon disappears and Rose finds herself wandering through a gloomy, fog-ridden town. What secrets hide Silent Hill and what relationship with Sharon?

REC (2007)

A journalist hungry for scoops finds herself trapped in a building when it is placed in quarantine. A mysterious virus transforms the occupants of the building into violent zombies. Accompanied by her faithful cameraman, the intrepid journalist will have to fight for her life… while filming the biggest scoop of her career. The franchise is made up of four films.

Paranormal Activity (2007)

A young couple moves into a house in the suburbs. Their quiet little life is quickly disturbed by the appearance of strange phenomena at night. Convinced that their house is haunted by a demonic spirit, the couple install cameras everywhere. The film is thus presented as a kind of documentary with camera recordings. The franchise is made up of five games.
