Electric bikes are part of the solution to reduce carbon emissions. But unfortunately, these vehicles are still quite expensive, which justifies the public authorities giving a helping hand. Existing aid will be extended and even improved until the end of the year.
Buying an electrically assisted bicycle is the dream of many of us, but we have to admit that it is an expensive dream! Fortunately, the current public aid will continue until December 31, under the amended finance bill for 2022 recently voted.
The ceiling jumps
The text contains several measures that should help more people to equip themselves. Thus, the ceiling for state aid for the purchase of a VAE will increase to €300 on August 15, i.e. €100 more than currently. Attention, the maximum aid is paid according to the price of the bike and the resources of the taxpayer. Other good news, this “Bonus Vélo” is no longer subject to the obligation to receive aid from a local community.
This is what will right an injustice: if it is relatively easy to obtain a bonus paid by the municipality or the local authority of one’s place of residence for the purchase of a bicycle, it is much more difficult for all those who live outside a built-up area.
Households with the lowest incomes and people with disabilities will benefit from increased purchase aid, up to €400 (again, this is means-tested). For these populations, the boost could even amount to €2,000 for the purchase of a cargo bike, or 40% of the price of the vehicle. The ceiling for this measure is currently €1,000.
In addition, the conversion bonus that one receives by putting a polluting vehicle (gasoline or diesel) in exchange for the purchase of a VAE will be extended: while it is limited to one bicycle per household, this aid will be able to be paid to each person in the household who acquires a bicycle.
