These blue banners are quite discreet, but given the mass of iPhones in circulation, this activity represents nearly 4 billion dollars each year. And Apple would not intend to stop there. Bloomberga publication usually very well informed, assured that the manufacturer had tested advertising in its Maps application.
In a search with the word “sushi”, Maps would first show the Japanese restaurants that paid for the top results. It works the same way with the App Store, and Yelp users are used to seeing results riddled with this kind of advertising. But that’s not all.
Advertisements sold by Apple could also invest in other applications such as Podcasts and Books: creators and publishers would pay to appear in pole position in the results of a search. Even downright in the sheets of programs and publications. The manufacturer could also take inspiration from future Netflix and Disney+ subscriptions funded by advertising for its own Apple TV+ streaming service.
Will customers of Apple products be delighted by this advertising offensive? Given the prices asked by the manufacturer, it is not certain. Users may not have a choice: Apple would intend to exceed 10 billion dollars in annual turnover for this activity…
