Big retro charm for the Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo, which prints photos!

With its new Instax Mini Evo, Fujifilm attempts to combine film, digital and snapshot cameras with its built-in printer. The design should also appeal to retro aficionados!

The Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo is a funny camera. It incorporates a 1.5 inch CMOS sensor (f / 2.0 aperture) capable of taking 35mm equivalent photos. It is certainly not the best photo sensor on the market, but it will be possible to compensate for its limitations by retouching the shots on the 3-inch LCD screen on the back.

Nostalgia and modernity in one box

The manufacturer offers ten shooting modes (vignette, double exposure, etc.) and as many “cinematographic” filters. Rather classic until now, but for Fujifilm fully plays the retro card: to switch from one mode to another, you have to turn a physical dial. And above all, this Instax has a hell of a joker up its sleeve: it prints photos in a credit card format (6.2 x 4.6 cm), in 600 dpi!

To initiate an impression, all you have to do is squeeze a lever, which further accentuates the retro look of the case. The device, which uses Instax Mini paper for photo printing, can also be used as a simple printer since it can receive images from a smartphone. The manufacturer offers several versions of its paper, such as an “earth gray” for example, giving an old effect to the printed clichés.

In addition to the film dial and print lever, the lens ring can also be manipulated to change effects. Everything is integrated into a chassis reminiscent of cameras of yesteryear, with its faux leather and shiny touches here and there. The Instax Mini Evo will be available in Europe in February 2022, at a price that should be around € 200.
