Canal+ loses broadcasting of TF1 group channels

No more signal for Canal+ which must stop broadcasting the channels of the TF1 group.

This Friday, September 2, Canal+ subscribers had the bad surprise to discover that several channels were now inaccessible. Users of TV by Canal, which provides access to all DTT channels, will now have to find another way to watch TF1 and its subsidiaries.

Indeed, since this morning, TMC, TFX, TF1 Séries Films and LCI are inaccessible for subscribers to the offer held by Vivendi. On its website, the company explains:

“As part of the renewal of the distribution contract for its channels by the CANAL+ Group, the TF1 Group has expressed its desire to fundamentally review its commercial requirements as of August 31.”

In concrete terms, with the broadcasting agreements coming to an end, the two entities have entered a new phase of negotiation. The claims of the first channel were obviously not to the taste of Canal+. “Faced with these unfounded and unreasonable demands for channels which are accessible free of charge for all and which owe the rest, the Canal+ group, a long-time partner of the TF1 group, is forced to give up broadcasting its channels.”

A new conflict

This is not the first time that the tone has risen between the two entities. In March 2018, Canal+ also cut the broadcast of TF1 for similar reasons. After several months of arm wrestling, and an intervention by the Ministry of Culture, Canal and TF1 had found common ground in November of the same year.

How to watch TF1 without Canal+?

Subscribers will have to find subterfuge to be able to watch the group’s different channels. Several solutions are available to you.

If you still have a TNT antenna and a decoder, you will be able to activate it to take advantage of it. If you have a smart TV, you can also install the My TF1 applications on compatible devices. It will also be possible to watch all the channels via the TV box provided by your access provider.

In any case, the life of Canal+ subscribers will be complicated over the coming months. However, we can expect this arm wrestling to end one day. In the meantime, we will have to do without.
