CD Projekt RED confirms the next The Witcher under Unreal Engine 5!

It is necessarily an event in the world of video games: the Polish studio CD Project RED has just announced that the successor to The Witcher 3 was under development, and that the game will run under the engine Unreal Engine 5 (the engine also used in the next Hellblade for example). If it is already certain that the release date of this next opus will not be specified for several years, we still hope that this new development will not bite too much on the extensions planned for Cyberpunk 2077 (which really needs new), or even that this does not ultimately mean the end of extensions for the futuristic RPG.

The Witcher Anniversary

A priori, CD Projekt RED has the human resources necessary to carry out two large development projects in parallel, but the fiasco of the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 now prompts us to be cautious. As a reminder, The Witcher 3 was released 7 years ago and sold more than 30 million copies. The stakes are therefore high for the Polish studio, both artistically, playfully and financially.

The other big piece of information is of course the abandonment of the internal REDengine engine for Epic’s very universal Unreal Engine 5. This is always what the studio will not have to optimize during developmentā€¦ The choice of engine also clearly indicates that The Witcher 4 will only be available on PC and consoles new gen.
