Chrono Cross Remaster confirmed, with surprises

During a new Nintendo Direct was announced a re-release of Chronocross on modern machines. The opportunity in particular for the West to officially discover one of the most famous RPGs from Square Enix, when the publisher was still only Squaresoft.

It’s finally ready, it will be here soon. Collaboration with free-to-play Another Edenthe index contained in the source code, and before that, the mention of a remastering of Chronocross in an Nvidia list: all these elements converged, Wednesday evening, towards an announcement that was no longer so surprising, but oh so exhilarating.

In a Nintendo Direct with the good taste of madeleines was thus discovered CHRONO CROSS: THE RADICAL DREAMERS EDITION. As expected, this release of a cult PlayStation title will not be a “remake” but a port. The 3D character models have been redone and, like several previous remasters, denote with blurry looking backgrounds.

CHRONO CROSS THE RADICAL DREAMERS EDITION: two games in one

The subtitle of this version implied it, but the reality was too good to be desired: CHRONO CROSS: THE RADICAL DREAMERS EDITION will include Radical Dreamers. This title was originally released in 1996 on Satellaview, an extension of the Japanese Super Nintendo where the games released on it were acquired in the traditional way or by download. Radical Dreamers presents itself as a graphic novel featuring Serge, Kid and Magil, a kind of prequel to the events of Chronocross.

We are promised functionalities to find, as much as possible, a visual rendering of the time. Fights can be made easier with even the option to deactivate them. The music has been reworked, but as composer Yasunori Mitsuda said after discussing this announcement, the changes should only be minimal, with some extra pieces.

CHRONO CROSS: THE RADICAL DREAMERS EDITION will only be available to download on Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. But not only will it be offered at the fairly low price of 19.99 euros, but for lovers of the language of Dominique de Villepin, it will notably be playable in French. Until now, only an unofficial translation, and of good quality, made it possible to practice this JRPG in a comfortable way for players in France.

Release scheduled for Thursday, April 7th.
