A shadow figure in the first part, Emperor Shaddam IV should have a more important place in the narrative of Dune 2. Denis Villeneuve has obviously found the perfect actor to play him.
The universe of Dunes is far from having revealed all its secrets. After the success of the first installment, Warner Bros was quick to announce that a sequel was in the works. Still with Denis Villeneuve directing, the film will continue to explore the destiny of Paul Atréides on the planet Arrakis.
If the spectators have already had the opportunity to discover many characters, few have survived this first part, new protagonists will appear. The ranks of the cast will therefore expand, a renowned actor has just been recruited to portray an important character in the narrative.
According to information from Deadline, Christopher Walken will camp Emperor Shaddam IV Corrino. In the novels, and in the film, he is the one who will order House Atreides to leave Caladan for Dune. If the name of Christopher Walken means nothing to you, you have probably already seen him in several feature films. He was in the cast of several Tim Burton films, starting with Batman: The Challenge or sleepy hollow.
In just over a year at the cinema
For Denis Villeneuve and his teams, the work required to produce an opus of Dunes is colossal. Between sets, props, special and digital effects, producing a science fiction saga of this magnitude takes time and money.
We could therefore expect to have to take our troubles patiently before discovering the second opus. Obviously, we won’t have to wait very long since the meeting is set for next fall. Warner Bros has announced that it will be possible to discover it on October 18, 2023.
As a reminder, Dune follows the adventures of Paul Atreides, a gifted and brilliant young man who travels with his family to the most dangerous planet in the universe. It is the only one to provide the most precious resource: spice. As evil forces vie for control of the planet, Paul must face his destiny.
Alongside Timothée Chalamet (Paul), we find Zendaya (Chani), Josh Brolin (Gurney Halleck). Florence Pugh will also be there, she should play Paul’s betrothed and the Emperor’s daughter. The screenplay, adapted from the writings of Frank Herbert, is written by Jon Spaihts.
