E3 2022 will, once again, be exclusively online

E3 2022 will take place, but it will be exclusively online. For the second year in a row, the biggest video game fair which takes place in June will not have the right to a physical edition. Unsurprisingly, it is linked to Covid-19.

No physical edition for E3 2022, again

“Due to the continued health risks surrounding Covid-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022”, said the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which manages the show, in a statement to GamesBeat. “We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon”.

It is true that this decision may come as a surprise. We are in January and a show that will take place in June is already seeing its physical edition being canceled. Admittedly, cases of contamination are on the rise at the moment because of the Omicron variant, but there is nothing to say that the situation will remain the same at the end of the semester. In any case, ESA has already made its decision.

This E3 2022, which will take place exclusively online, was not originally planned in this way. Last year, ESA was optimistic and said it had “Can’t wait to get together to celebrate E3 2022 in person”. But the Omicron variant came in to the party and the plans changed.
