Elden Ring will be less scary for new players than Dark Souls

Attractive but especially for initiates of the Dark Souls formula, Elden Ring should however differentiate itself from these games from which it seems to take a lot. Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explains that new players will have the opportunity to overcome passages with more options.

Less than a month from the release ofElden Ring, both on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, hands are already sweaty for those who already imagine walking in this universe, new but at the same time familiar. Many already see it as the title of a year that has barely begun yet. But let’s not hide it: these seers are mostly followers of the work of Hidetaka Miyazaki, whether they touched a Dark Souls, at Bloodborne or at Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

We therefore know thatElden Ring has already found its audience, but with a partnership as juicy as the one forged with George RR Martin (Game Of Thrones), can the title of FromSoftware settle for an acquired floor? Good news for neophytes of any “miyazakesque” experience, the director ofElden Ring thought of them. But not in a spirit of mockery, let us be clear.

Elden Ring: “New players shouldn’t worry about this difficulty”

In a long interview granted to PlayStation Blog, Hidetaka Miyazaki was led to speak about the accessibility of his new game. The president of FromSoftware assured that even without having ever tried a Souls before, newcomers will have what to have fun:

“I would like new players not to put pressure on themselves and to understand that they can approach the game at their own pace. I don’t want to force them to choose a particular style or path, I want them to be able to enjoy the freedom we give them. I realize that we offer games with a rather high level of difficulty, but they are designed to give you a powerful sense of accomplishment when you have completed these challenges. However, new players need not worry about this difficulty. »

Whether confirmed or not, players ofElden Ring will have a plethora of ways to progress. The frustration should only be lower.

“This time around in Elden Ring, we’ve made several options available to players so they can face the toughest situations and use their ingenuity to defeat enemies and bosses. They can come back later if they are at an impasse, so they will always be free in their progress and they won’t have to work on the same problem over and over again. They will thus be able to reflect calmly on how to approach it, always at their own pace.

Like our previous games, this one contains multiplayer elements, but the requirements have been relaxed to make it much more accessible. We hope players will take full advantage of this. »

Release scheduled for Friday, February 25, 2022.
