Embracer wants to make movies about Gandalf and Aragorn

Embracer has just bought the rights to the saga of Lord of the Rings that the group is already teasing many projects. Indeed, the firm expressed in its announcement its desire to explore stories never before told on screen. In a second press release, it speaks, among other things, of films dedicated to key characters, such as Gandalf, Aragorn or even Gollum.

This is the big announcement of the day before. After months of research, Middle-earth Enterprises has finally found a buyer for the rights to Lord of the Rings. It is therefore the publisher Embracer Group which inherits the legendary work of JRR Tolkien, obtained for the sum of 774 million euros. Contrary to New Line Cinema which had only benefited from a license to carry out the trilogy of films of Peter Jackson, Embracer can from now on carry out what it sees fit in connection with the cult saga.

And obviously, the Swedish firm does not lack ideas. When it was announced, it had already mentioned the possibility of adapting stories ” which have not yet been exploited. Later, she returned to this statement with more details: “Other possibilities include exploring additional films based on iconic characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gollum, Galadriel, Eowyn and other characters from JRR Tolkien’s literary works”.

A new film from the Lord of the Rings in preparation?

Unsurprisingly, Embracer therefore plans to expand the cinematic universe of Lord of the Rings, in the form of spin-offs dedicated to key characters in the saga. Note, however, that Galadriel will again be featured in the upcoming series The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video, and that a video game centered on Gollum has also been announced.

Note that these spin-offs will not necessarily be linked to Peter Jackson’s films, but rather to Tolkien’s books. Nothing therefore says that we will find the actors of the trilogy in these new works, as was the case for Gandalf in The Hobbit. Furthermore, cinema is not alone in Embracer’s line of sight, which also evokes its desire to“continue to provide fans with new opportunities to explore this fictional world through merchandise and other experiences. »
