Who said samurai were out of fashion? More than a year and a half after its release in July 2020, Ghost of Tsushima—One of the latest PlayStation 4 blockbusters — has just achieved a very good sales score, totaling more than 8 million games sold worldwide. An admirable performance for one of the flagship first-party studios of the PlayStation brand.
The trend is for samurai
As annone on thefrom the Sucker Punch studio, Ghost of Tsushima recently surpassed the mark of 8 million copies sold. These sales figures undoubtedly include the standard edition of the game on PlayStation 4, but also the dubbed edition of the subtitle Director’s Cut was released during the summer of 2022 on old and new generation of consoles. It takes advantage of all the additional content, with the addition of graphics and framerate improvements on the PlayStation 5 console.
Ghost of Tsushima thus signs an admirable performance and counts among the bestsellers not only of the first-party catalog of Sony Interactive, but of the PlayStation 4 console. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (16 million copies), Marvel’s Spider-Man (12 million) or even Horizon zero dawn and The Last of Us Remastered (10 millions). Ghost of Tsushima thus exceeds Infamous Second Son, another Sucker Punch production, and its 6 million copies sold – but remains far, far from the record of God of war and its 19.5 million copies sold …
Soon on the big screen
Furthermore, Ghost of Tsushima is one of the cinema projects of Sony’s PlayStation Productions branch. This division responsible for adapting the licenses of the Japanese firm to the big and small screen has announced the start of production of a feature film Ghost of Tsushima early last year. Recently, director Chad Stahelski (John Wick) spoke about the film again during an interview with IGN, and expressed his interest in the project — and his desire to stay true to the original game. No release date has yet been announced as the film is still in the pre-production phase.
