GoldenEye 007 lands on Nintendo Switch 25 years after its release

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of GoldenEye 007, James Bond offers an unexpected return to Nintendo Switch and Xbox.

There are games that we look forward to, like the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwhich finally formalized Tears of the Kingdom for the next year. And then there are the cult games from which nothing is expected, like GoldenEye 007the FPS sauce James Bond released in the late 1990s on Nintendo 64. 25 years after its birth on console, the title developed by Rare is however making a comeback.

James Bond is back

Britain’s best-known secret agent is back in action, with an unexpected remaster, 15 years after the first rumours. For the occasion, the Rare and Nintendo game will be making a royal comeback, with not only a release on the Big N console, but also on Xbox consoles. Nostalgia obviously promises to make Bond’s mythical P99 vibrate, but it is in a modernized version that the spy will come out of retirement.

In addition to new controls adapted to modern controllers, GoldenEye 007 will also benefit from a 16:9 format (instead of 4:3 at the time), and up to 4K resolution on Xbox Series S/X consoles. The graphics meanwhile, will remain unchanged, as will the story, which faithfully repeats that of the 1995 film with Pierce Brosnan in the title role. Unlike the first remaster released in 2010 on Wii and Nintendo DS, this new GoldenEye 007 should therefore amaze us.

As in the original game, players will have access to a campaign mode to prevent the terrible GoldenEye from wreaking havoc on the world. Several levels of difficulty will be accessible, and cheat codes will also sign their big comeback. The multiplayer mode will also be part of it, and it is in split screen that budding spies will be able to carry out their various missions. Note, however, that like most remasters, a list of achievements has also been added to delight completionists.

Available on Xbox Game Pass

No release date has yet been announced for the remake of GoldenEye 007. However, we know that the title will be accessible in Nintendo 64 classic games offer the Switch Online + Additional Pack subscription, which will allow the arrival of an online multiplayer mode. On Xbox, the game will be included in Game Pass. With 60 candles this year and a well-deserved retirement for the crown spy, the James Bond franchise still has a bright future ahead of it. The announcement of the new GoldenEye 007 could be done by next october 5on the occasion of James Bond Day.
