Good news for PlayStation players, Call of Duty remains

Call of Duty or COD is a series of first-person shooter video games about warfare. This very popular game was created by the American video game developer and publisher, Activision Blizzard. The latter is one of the largest video game publishers in the world, recently acquired by Microsoft.

However, lately Activision Blizzard has had a lot of problems with its employees. Apparently the company does not take good care of its workers and even the government stepped in and demanded an audit. The company has lost several of its partners, including Lego, which moved away so as not to be tainted by Blizzard’s bad reputation. In the end, the company had no choice but to accept Microsoft’s takeover offer.

About Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Microsoft’s takeover of video game giant Activision Blizzard is one of Microsoft’s biggest acquisition deals. The transaction amounted to 68.7 billion dollars. By this contract, Microsoft became the owner of Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, Warcraft, StarCraft, Overwatch, Candy Crush and other popular franchises.

After the announcement of this acquisition, a lot of apprehension was felt among fans of these video games. They wonder if these games will belong exclusively to the Microsoft universe and its Xbox consoles and what will happen to the Playstation IPs.

Phil Spencer has confirmed that Call of Duty will remain on Playstation

According to a Sony representative, there have been contractual agreements regarding Call of Duty games which are among the top-selling PlayStation games. In this regard, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, announced on his personal Twitter account that he would honor the agreements when acquiring Activision Blizzard. To this end, Microsoft has mentioned its desire to keep the famous Call of Duty war game on Playstation. In the same vein, he clarified that Sony is an important part of their industry and that Xbox appreciates this relationship the company has with them. However, Phil Spencer did not mention the other franchises.

This tweet can be interpreted in a thousand ways because the announcement about the desire to keep the very popular war game remains quite vague. Nevertheless, from a financial point of view, it is understandable that Microsoft keeps Call of Duty on a very large platform such as Playstation. As it was mentioned above, Call of Duty is among the top selling Playstation games every year so Microsoft will make a huge profit out of it.
