Google has really decided to get back to work on tablets and announces that it will update 20 of its applications in order to have optimized use on the medium. This is part of the I/O conference announcements.
Google’s apps will adapt well to Android tablets
Among the apps that will be updated for tablets are YouTube Music, Google Maps, Messages and Google Play Store. A few days ago, users had the right to a new interface for playlists on YouTube Music and Google shows in a tweet a preview of the equivalent version on tablet.
For Google Maps, the group says users will be entitled to see rich information at a glance to help them navigate the world around them. For the Messages application, which supports SMS and RCS (successor of SMS), there will be a view with two columns including the list of contacts on the left. And for the Google Play Store, users will be entitled to navigation buttons and information placed in cards for each stream/section.
Big screen, big changes. We’re optimizing the Android experience for larger tablet screens. 20+ Google apps will get makeovers so they’re easier to use and easier on the eyes. Many of your other fave apps are getting updates too. #GoogleIO pic.twitter.com/qbfs0DLkZM

There will also be Gmail, Google Home and Google TV updates. These will have a bar on the left side to navigate between the different sections, as is already the case today with the Google Photos application.
Why this sudden interest in tablets? Because Google has already announced a Pixel tablet that will arrive sometime in 2023. The group is therefore preparing the ground so that everything is ready when its new product is available for purchase. But it is true that the company is ahead given the arrival in 2023.
