With his third film, Ant-Man could gain prominence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What can we expect from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?
Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming to an end soon. only 3 years later Endgame, and with all the same a year of cinema break, the franchise developed by Disney is already preparing to open a new chapter in its history. This is Wakanda Forever who will have the heavy task of concluding this transition phase. During Comic-Con, Marvel also gave the details of the next salvo of films and series.
This will not have escaped you, it is Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania who will open the ball. While the adventures of Scott Lang have so far been somewhat on the sidelines of the Infinite saga, the hero played by Paul Rudd will gain in importance as the fifth phase will come to draw the contours of the new saga in more detail, dubbed the Multiverse Saga.
After all, it’s partly thanks to him that the whole team was able to bring half of humanity back to life, and travel through time and space has probably become his specialty. We take stock of everything that makes Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania essential footage from Phase 5.
A Primal Avengers
It’s time for Marvel to find new heroes. Without Iron Man, Captain America or Black Widow, the franchise is short of figureheads. Paul Rudd’s sympathy capital could work in his favor. In 2015, when the Avengers led by Captain America are at their best, a little ant enters. She is camped by Paul Rudd, an actor more accustomed to romantic comedies than to outpourings of special and digital effects.
He plays a computer engineer imprisoned after having circumvented the law to play the Robin Hoods of modern times. Upon his release from prison, he is hired by a certain Hank Pym to carry out a robbery.
Except that this mission is not a mission like any other, he must put on a costume capable of making him shrink and grow at will. In the second part, he will explore the subatomic dimension to find Pym’s wife and the mother of his partner Hope.
In the comics, it’s more the incarnation of Henry Pym who stands out as the norm. He is also a founding member of the Avengers. His character, as well as his successors, have thus often gravitated around the hard core of the superhero team. We would therefore not be surprised to see him put on the leader’s cap in the future. Especially since the new superheroes, introduced thanks to the Disney + series, are rather young. Note, however, that Doctor Strange could also embody the face of the team.
A long-awaited antagonist
If you saw Lokiyou are not unaware that Kang The Conqueror is set to enter the MCU soon. He was briefly mentioned in the final episode of the series worn by Tom Hiddleston. After Thanos, this character should establish itself as the new main antagonist.
He will be camped by Jonathan Mayors, who we discovered in the excellent series Lovecraft Country. Moreover, he has already appeared in Loki in the guise of He-Who-Abides. If you haven’t followed everything, this is the man who controls VAT in the shadows.
After opening the doors of the multiverse, and summoning a whole bunch of alter egos, the latter decided to close the portals and make sure to maintain temporal continuity. That’s why it removes variants. Except that his death will have reopened its gates. Its variants will therefore make their appearance.
Jonathan Majors is also announced in the casting ofAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Difficult to know for the moment if it will be Kang the Conqueror or one of its variants.
In the comics, Kang is also known as Nathaniel Richards. Born in an alternate future, he will travel to the past to become Kang. He will enslave the galaxy and go in search of new spaces to conquer. Almost invulnerable, he should give our heroes a hard time.
There is little chance that Scott Lang will face him in the third installment of his adventures. Two new avengers are on the agenda for the next few years. The fifth film incidentally inherited the name Kang Dynastyleaving little room for doubt.
Since the arrival of Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan or even the announcement ofIron Heart, rumors of a Young Avengers movie are heating up. Marvel seems to want to adapt the comics featuring the team of teenagers. Ant-Man: Quantumania could also introduce a new heroine.
Cassie Lang in the comics isn’t just Scott Lang’s daughter. Readers know that she will also have a superhero career alongside her father. She will call herself Stature and can control her size and strength. However, his emotions play an important role in the process.
In Avengers: Endgame, Cassie was not a victim of the blip. She has therefore aged and could thus lend a hand to her father. At least that’s what has been rumored since San Diego Comic-Con. Indeed, a short teaser was unveiled to the panel audience. If Disney and Marvel did not relay them on social networks, a few guests revealed the important elements of the sequence. Cassie would be of paramount importance to them.
At Marvel, with a few exceptions, it’s three laps and then gone. With the exception of Thor, all of the significant Avengers were only allowed three footage. Quantumania could thus be the last film (solo) of Paul Rudd. The details of his contract with the house of ideas have not been communicated, it is difficult to know if he is hired for other films. We can nevertheless expect to see him again in Avengers 5 and 6. The next few months will undoubtedly be an opportunity for Marvel to reveal a little more to us.
The next appointment at the cinema is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and it is particularly awaited. Marvel is to replace Chadwick Boseman after his death, but the identity of his successor has not been revealed. The plot is also particularly mysterious, even if an appearance by Namor seems to be on the program. In any case, the first images seem to point in this direction.
And if not, for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniayou will have to wait until 2023, February 15 precisely. Alongside Paul Rudd, we will find Evangeline Lilly in the skin of Hope, Michael Douglas in that of Hank and Michelle Pfeiffer in Janet. As for the newcomers, it will be necessary to count on Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton and Bill Murray. Just that.
