how to fill in your grid to maximize your gain?

Tonight, the EuroMillion super draw may allow one of the players to walk away with a huge jackpot of 217 million euros. We explain how to fill out your grid in order to get the most out of it and boost your chances of leaving with a win.

Filling in a grid for the EuroMillion draw is more complicated than it seems. Sure, you can just tick 5 numbers and 2 stars but you won’t be able to get the most out of it. To maximize your chance of winning the super jackpot of 217 million euros, you have to put the small dishes in the big ones.

Indeed, it very rarely happens that the sums at stake for the EuroMillion lottery are so high. In the history of this draw, there was only one time when the amount exceeded this kitty (it was 220 million euros). If you need to dream and a few euros to spend, it’s in your best interest to play this Tuesday July 5th.

By default, the lottery gives you about a 1 in 13 chance of walking away with a win. If you do it right, you can significantly increase your likelihood of walking away with something. Between the additional checkboxes, the MultiChances or the Star+ option, there are so many little “tricks” that allow you to boost your chances. The most loyal players in the EuroMillion draw know this well!

What to look for when filling in a grid?

The EuroMillion draw always takes the same form: the result is made up of 5 numbers and 2 stars. The classic grid offered by the operator FDJ is made up of the same number of these digits and costs 2.50 euros by default. This does not give you a great chance of winning the jackpot, although you still have a non-zero probability of finding the right combination.

If you want to go further, we invite you anyway to check the Star+ option. This is optionally available at the bottom of your EuroMillion grid, whether at your tobacconist or if you play on the website. When you check this box, the probability of leaving with a win is multiplied by 3: it then becomes a 1 in 3.8 chance. This option is sold at the price of 1 euro. This means that your grid will have cost 3.50 euros in all.

From a value for money point of view, the Etoile+ option is well worth it. It won’t increase your chances of winning the mega jackpot of 217 million, but it will help you get intermediate wins. If you’re playing EuroMillion, this is definitely the right safety net to have. This adds 1 euro per grid to you, which is not much compared to the increase in the probability of success.

Apart from the Star+ option, there is another way to increase your probability of winning the EuroMillion jackpot this Tuesday evening. It is more drastic but it also costs more: you just have to tick more boxes directly on your grid. For example, if you tick 6 numbers (while the draw will only come out 5), it will cost you a total of 15 euros. The price is quite exponential but the probability of success increases very clearly. It is worth asking the question.

This solution is the most effective for increasing your chance of winning the EuroMillion draw. That said, the cost can quickly deter more than one. Psychologically, we tend to prefer ticking 5 grids at 2.50 euros each rather than ticking an extra number on a simple grid (which costs 15 euros in total). You are free to do your calculations to see which is the best solution in relation to your budget.

MultiChances and My Million, two subtleties

When you fill in a EuroMillion grid, there are two other points that you may not be aware of. First of all, there is the MultiChances solution which is only available if you play via the FDJ website. This option is not available if you go to a classic tobacconist. It is for this reason that it is less known – but nevertheless it deserves to be.

In detail, MultiChances allows you to diversify your risk during the EuroMillion draw by allowing you to bet on hundreds of grids at the same time. You will not have to take out the full amount, but you will only buy part of this pack. There are packs of 660 grids and others of 1260 grids. For the first, the starting bet is 5 euros for one part, while it is 7.50 euros for the second. You will earn in proportion to the number of shares.

Then there is the My Million draw that we tend to forget. In addition to the EuroMillion draw, this second draw is reserved for French customers. And good news: it is included in the initial price. This means that for 2.50 euros you will not only be playing for the main draw with the 217 million euros at stake, but you will also be playing for the My Million draw. This takes place about an hour before the mega draw, around 8:15 p.m.

What does My Million win? For each grid filled in France, you have a random number which is associated. The FDJ will then draw one of these numbers and offer it one million euros. This means that there will be a guaranteed French millionaire on the evening of July 5. And it will be totally independent of the EuroMillion draw which potentially may give no winner. If this is the case, the historic record and the fixed limit of 230 million euros will then be drawn next Friday.
