In the United States, it could be forbidden to use bots to buy game consoles

In the shadows, these resellers are rampant, allowing themselves outings to gargle their exploits. However, in the future, they may be prohibited from using “bots”To buy game consoles on the web. American Democrats have presented a bill in this direction.

As if the small quantities made available to the public were not already a problem, players wishing to switch to the new generation of consoles must now deal with another question: that of resellers. It is thus common knowledge that the latter manage to obtain many machines before parting with them for a much higher price.

The problem is not so much that of being offered PlayStation 5s at 800 euros, but rather that of being prevented from buying the machine from a retailer. Because the resellers will have used “bots”, or computer programs guaranteeing them to be the first served when stock renewals.

Console resellers: a US bill to put an end to “bots”

The days of this practice may be numbered. We learn that a bill, entitled “Stopping Grinch Bots Act”, has been tabled by American Democrats. The text does not specifically target game consoles, but more generally all products valued by buyers in search of profitable resale.

The bill emanates from Representative Paul Tonko, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer and Senator Ben Ray Luján, By means of a press release, Paul Tonko recalls the sad consequences of the use of these “bots ”For lambda fireplaces:

“In an age when families should be able to spend time with loved ones, digital ‘Grinch robots’ are forcing Americans to scour sites online in hopes of finding an affordable gift or paying outrageous prices for a single toy. ”.

“Our Cranky Robots Act is designed to level the playing field and prevent street vendors from drying out hard-working parents during the holiday season. I urge my colleagues to join me in immediately passing this legislation to prevent these Grinch bots from stealing the holidays. ”

It now remains for this law to be adopted, knowing that a similar proposal had been made to the British Parliament at the beginning of the year, without this measure having yet been validated there. For the time being, only Japanese retailers seem to have implemented measures to counter this type of resale, and specifically game consoles.
