To say the least Blizzard has been living on its achievements for several years: the last Diablo dates from 2012, Word of Warcraft from 2004, Overwatch is already 6 years old and the card game Hearthstone is 8 years old (and let’s not talk about Starcraft, now in the dumpster). So certainly, Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV are still in the works, but these are still only sequels to known (and recognized) franchises.
And now, without warning, just a few days after the announcement of the phenomenal takeover of Microsoft (which we have tried to analyze as well as possible in this article), the studio has just announced a new franchise! This new IP does not yet have a name, but Blizzard specifies that it will be a survival game that will be available one day perhaps on console (without “s” in the press release) and PC. So let’s correct: the game will probably be available on Xbox Series, Game Pass and Windows PC.
By way of presentation of the title, Blizzard ventures a press release that is confusing and teases “A place filled with heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be experienced. A vast realm of possibilities, waiting to be explored. Every story needs a storyteller. And every world needs builders. And if it were you ? » It is to wonder if the studio has the slightest idea of the objective to be achieved. Let’s not sulk our pleasure, however: a new Blizzard franchise is bound to be exciting information for the players that we are.
