Microsoft supports women in gaming with a special program

For International Women’s Day, Microsoft is presenting a specific support program.

March 8 is International Women’s Day, and for the occasion, many companies recall all the efforts made today for gender equality both in terms of salary and representation. or work opportunities. In this sense, Microsoft presented on this symbolic day a new support program for women in the video game industry.

A tailor-made mentoring program

According to figures shared by Microsoft, while 45% of gamers identify as female, only 30% of developers do the same. This is also a reality within the firm itself, which claims to have 29.7% of women in its workforce. The Microsoft program therefore aims to inspire young women in the making to build their careers in this predominantly male industry.

It will be implemented later this month and will be available in several countries, including France. For the moment, few details on the mode of operation of this program have been shared but Microsoft will come back in the days that follow with more information. In the meantime, the studio seems to be betting big on this initiative. He explains :

Mentorship and empathy foster a culture of support and competition among women, and I hope to inspire others to do the same. Xbox is committed to creating a welcoming community for all, and to creating a safe space to enjoy it. We hope that this program can create exchanges resulting in concrete actions to help develop these careers in the industry.. »

Women’s month, also in video games

Alongside this approach, Microsoft also intends to invest in slightly lighter areas throughout the month of March, devoted to women’s history. The firm will therefore carry out various updates in its flagship games, but will also share the stories of many women in the video game sector, among other actions, the list of which you will find right here.

In France, know that you also have access to all the actions of the Women in Games association, a major player in the industry that encourages diversity and equality within video game companies. Active since 2017, the group plays on four main principles: the visibility of women in the industry, raising awareness among players in the sector, support through training and communication with young girls.
