Neuralink should have the right to perform its first tests on humans in the year 2022.
Neuralink is one of Elon Musk’s companies. Less famous than SpaceX or Tesla, which today make the fame of the entrepreneur from Pretoria, Neuralink nevertheless has very big ambitions, and the boss of the latter is very confident about the development of the chip technology implanted in the brain.
Less than a year ago, a macaque named Pager had managed to play table tennis in front of a computer without using a joystick, simply by “telepathy”. This first critical success had already allowed the firm to put the spotlight on its work. But according to recent statements from the boss, he will soon be doing this, on humans.
Indeed, Elon Musk’s ambition is to launch the first tests of his chip on humans during the year 2022. An announcement made by Musk himself on his Twitter account, a favorite place for the entrepreneur to do his communication. While awaiting a more official press release from the biotech company, some people still have doubts about Neuralink’s ability to reach such an important milestone, just over five years after the company was founded.
Cautious optimism for Elon Musk
According to a stock investor, Elon Musk is “Cautiously optimistic” as to the upcoming success of his chip. According to him, it would be able to restore the mobility of their whole body to quadriplegic people, a real revolution in the world of medicine as there has not been for a long time.
The tweet also gave rather vague information on the specifications followed by Neuralink. Indeed, the latter would be much more complete than the requests of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) for marketing in the United States. Information that has not been refuted by Elon Musk, who simply replied to the tweet by explaining that he was not yet completely certain of the potential of the chip, but he was confident about the effectiveness and uses possible of the latter!
This isn’t the first time Elon Musk has made an announcement of this size, and these statements, while often true, need to be taken with some distance. If the technology that the entrepreneur promises may well arrive one day, the schedules given by Elon Musk are for the most part exceeded by several years.
Announcements not always on time
This was already the case for Tesla and the brand’s supply chain, and it will undoubtedly be the case for SpaceX in the coming months, the company being in a financial impasse by its own admission of its boss. So this could very well be the case again today with this surprisingly surprising announcement concerning Neuralink.
To be sure, you just have to wait and see what the firm will offer in the years to come. According to the latest report about Neuralink concocted by Forbes magazine, the company is not the only one working in this area and unlike SpaceX or Tesla, it is not. “ahead of its time”, something that was often praised in Elon Musk’s businesses.
Here this is clearly not the case, and Neuralink comes up with a project and an idea shared by many companies around the world. In addition, the latter will all have to fight administrative regulations, but also ethical questions and debates surrounding the arrival of such technology.
