After March 2023, the Nintendo eShop will no longer allow the purchase of games for the 3DS and Wii U. It will also no longer be possible to download free content, including demos.
Phasing out of Nintendo eShop for 3DS and Wii U
As of August 29, 2022, it will no longer be possible to fund your account using a Nintendo eShop Card in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or 3DS. However, it will be possible to register download codes until the end of March 2023.
Meanwhile, players who have merged their Nintendo Network ID balance (used in Nintendo eShop on Wii U and 3DS) with their Nintendo Account balance (used in Nintendo eShop on Switch) can use this pooled amount to purchase content on any of these consoles until the end of March 2023. Thereafter, the balance can only be used to purchase content on the Switch.
After this date, however, it will still be possible to redownload previously purchased games and content, update software and play online on Nintendo 3DS family systems and Wii U.

What will happen after March 2023? It will still be possible to download games and DLCs already purchased, as well as updates for games and enjoy the online mode. “Thank you for using Nintendo eShop on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and we hope you continue to have fun on these consoles”concludes Nintendo.
