Nintendo announces that it has sold 107.65 million Switches since the launch in March 2017. There were 4.11 million copies sold between January and March, and 23.06 million consoles over the last 12 months which corresponds to its fiscal year 2022. In detail, there were 13.56 million standard Switch, 5.80 million Switch OLED and 3.70 million Switch Lite.

Nintendo Switch sales for fiscal year 2022

Originally, Nintendo had planned to sell 25 million Switches for its fiscal year. The group then made a modification and counted on 24 million. There was another change, namely 23 million. The 23.06 million sales are therefore in line with its expectations. It is however worth noting that this represents a drop of 20% compared to the previous fiscal year, when there were 28.83 million sales.

According to Nintendo, the 20% year-on-year decline in sales is explained by the shortage of components and the fact that factories have not been able to operate at full speed as the case may be.

In any case, the Switch remains popular with its 107.65 million sales worldwide. It has already surpassed the Wii which had recorded 101.63 million sales in its time. But it remains behind the Game Boy (118.69 million sales) and the Nintendo DS (154.02 million sales).

What about the future? For its new fiscal year (which started on April 1 and ends in March 2023), Nintendo says it expects to sell 21 million Switches. This is therefore down compared to the fiscal year that has just ended.

As for games, Nintendo says it has sold 39 million copies. Pokémon Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl dominated with 14.65 million units sold. Pokemon Legends: Arceuswhich sold 6.5 million copies in seven days, has sold 12.64 million units so far. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe enjoyed 9.94 million sales, while Kirby and the Forgotten World had 2.1 million in just over two weeks.
