No Way Home on track to overtake Avatar at the box office

On American soil, Spider-Man: No Way Home is about to dethrone Avatar. The film is expected in the coming days to surpass the numbers of James Cameron’s film when it premiered in the United States in 2009.

As we could predict Spider-Man: No Way Home is a hit in the cinema. The new Marvel and Sony film has largely met its audience, with $1.78 billion at the international box office. Excellent results which should thus place him in sixth place in the world ranking, not enough to overtake Avatar who still sits proudly in pole position. Nevertheless, the web weaver may well crush the blue aliens on American soil.

According to comic book, it should this week exceed the receipts of the film of James Cameron for its first exploitation. 7 weeks after its arrival on American screens, No Way Home has already garnered $749 million. He is now only a mere 800,000 dollars away from Avatar’s record (without taking inflation into account). A sum that the film with Tom Holland should have no trouble raising. It should thus obtain the third place in the American ranking of the biggest hits, just behind Star Wars: The Force Awakense and Avengers: Endgame. He has already passed Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. The latter earned Marvel $678.8 million upon release.

The Spider dethroned in France

After 6 weeks of undisputed reign, Spider-Man is relegated to second place in the French box office. With the result of last week, it is Almost with Bernard Campan and Alexandre Jollien who obtains the favors of the public. For its release, the French comedy attracted no less than 151,276 spectators. This is a little more than Spider-Man: No Way Home and its 150,691 entries for the week of January 26 to February 1. Nevertheless, the film has already accumulated 6.8 million admissions since its launch in France on December 15th.

By the end of February, the film could nevertheless register as the record for a Marvel film, surpassing Avengers: Endgame and its approximately 6.9 million admissions in France. The French public has visibly appreciated the new journey offered by Marvel and Sony. After two particularly difficult years for French cinemas, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Matrix 4 had enabled French cinemas to return to figures close to normal.

Doctor Strange to take over

The next meeting with the house of ideas will take place on May 4th. On this date, superhero enthusiasts will be able to find Doctor Strange in the second part of his adventures. The feature film is particularly anticipated since it promises to explore the multiverse, like no film before. Marvel will also sign Sam Raimi’s reunion with the superhero genre. The director of the first Spider-Man trilogy will film this new adventure, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen. A new production that should be emulated. What to surpass Spider-Man: No Way Home ?

Let us also remember that the saga Avatar will return to our screens this year with James Cameron’s long-awaited second opus. 13 years after Jake Sully’s first adventures with the Na’vi. Appointment on December 14 next. Others are also on the program, one every two years until 2028. Disney should therefore once again be the big winner in dark rooms, since the two licenses belong to it.
