Secret Invasion will have how many seasons?
Secret Invasion is presented as a mini-series. Therefore, she should only have one and only one season. However, Marvel Studios has already indicated that the Armor Wars series, planned for later, will act as a direct sequel. A false season 2, therefore.
Who will be in the cast of Secret Invasion?
Secret Invasion features a 5-star cast. Samuel L Jackson is obviously reprising his role as Nick Fury, which he has embodied for nearly fifteen years. Cobie Smulders is also back in Maria Hill.
Other known heads of the MCU are present. Ben Mendelsohn is Talos, a character seen in Captain Marvel. For his part, Martin Freeman puts on the costume of Everett Ross, already seen in Civil War and Black Panther. Finally, Don Cheadle (War Machine) is back. It is he who will be the hero of Armor Wars, the sequel to Secret Invasion.
The series is also an opportunity to discover newcomers to the MCU. We can count on Olivia Colman (agent Sonya Falsworth) or even Emilia Clarke, known for her role as Daenerys in Game of Thrones.
Kingsley Ben-Adir embodies Gravik, the main antagonist.
Of course, it’s a custom at Marvel, we might have cameos from other superheroes. Nothing confirmed yet.
What is Secret Invasion about?
Secret Invasion chronicles an underground conflict which pits SHIELD (or what’s left of it) against the Skrulls. The Skrulls, which we have already seen in Captain Marvel or Spider-Man Far From Home, are aliens capable of taking on human form.
Nick Fury, back on Earth, will therefore have to fight against these creatures. In the MCU, they’re on the “good guys” side, but a splinter faction has decided to make their own. Our hero will have to be on his guard, appearances are deceptive. Who is Skrull, who is not? A fool’s game that will undoubtedly be fascinating to watch. The trailer promises us a series with an atmosphere halfway between espionage and vintage science fiction.
In the comics, Secret Invasion was a massive event that involved a lot of superheroes. For this adjustment, Marvel seems to be sticking with a smaller-scale story. We will focus on the struggle of Fury and his agents. But the consequences of the invasion could be significant for the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Who is Nick Fury, the hero of Secret Invasion?
Nick Fury is a character created by Stan Lee in 1963. He is an elite soldier, director of SHIELD. He has no powers (apart from aging slowed by a serum) and can therefore only rely on his skills in combat. A character out of the ordinary in the Marvel stable.
A first film was dedicated to him in 1998 with David Hasselhoff, but we will pass over it modestly. He’s (thankfully) not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Nick Fury MCU version is inspired by the Ultimate version Comics (2001), which was itself inspired by Samuel L Jackson. The actor was logically chosen for the role and the circle has been completed.
The character debuted in the very first Iron Man (2008), specifically in the post-credits scene. He offers Tony Stark to integrate the Avengers in a sequence that has become cult.
He returns in Iron Man 2 (2010), still in his role as a recruiter. He plays a bigger role there. We then see him again in the post-credits scene of Captain America (2011) where he welcomes our hero to the modern world.
In the movie Avengers (2012), he is the one who leads the superhero team. We return in Captain America The Winter Soldier (2014). In this film, he witnesses the destruction of SHIELD and goes into hiding.
Nick Fury makes another appearance in Avengers Age of Ultron (2015) to help our heroes, then in Avengers Infinity War (2018) where he calls Captain Marvel to the rescue.
In Captain Marvel (2018), he plays a major role. This film has the particularity of showing us a young Fury, since it takes place in the 1990s.
The last time we saw Nick Fury, it was in Spider-Man Far From Home (2019) where he gives missions to Peter Parker. Over the course of the film, we learn that it wasn’t the real Fury, but the skrull Talos (Ben Medelsohn) who took on his appearance. The real Fury was directing operations from a Skrull base in space.
You would have understood it, Fury is a very important character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is the binder that allows all our heroes to meet and fight against evil. But as surprising as it may seem, he was never the hero of his film or his series. Secret Invasion fixes this error.
Pragmatic and often playing on several levels, he is a character far from super heroic clichés. He never hesitates to make difficult decisions, even if it means fooling his allies. Nevertheless, he always works for the common good, no matter what. An anti-hero who finally has the right to his series.
