Samsung soon ready to fold the price of folding smartphones?

Samsung is reportedly working on more affordable folding smartphones. A Galaxy A Fold or Galaxy A Flip would be under development, with a price below 800 euros. However, we would have to wait until 2024.

In 2019, Samsung’s announcement of a folding smartphone had the effect of a real earthquake. Not since the appearance of the 2007 iPhone has a product seemed so capable of shake up uses. The collapsible (or collapsible) smartphone is a form of achievement for manufacturers, allowing fit devices with giant screens into a pocket. Three years later, the folding smartphone has found a small place in a segment that is marking time. There is still a long way to go and Samsung remains quite alone in its project to impose this device of a new kind.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the symbol of the difficulties of this format to make itself indispensable. Nobody really needs to take the plunge, but Samsung’s flagship model still offers an interesting experience. It is on the strength of this observation that Samsung is preparing the arrival of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 during the summer, but not only. According to information from the ETNews media, the South Korean manufacturer is also reportedly working on a more affordable model with a folding screen.

A folding smartphone for less than 900 euros

This new smartphone would be sold in South Korea at a price of 1 million won, or around 750 euros. In Europe, one would have to expect a rate of between around 900 euros. It would then be more affordable than current models, including the Galaxy Z Flip 3 launched at 1,059 euros.

This more accessible alternative would integrate the Galaxy A range. The latter is particularly attractive for its value for money, with models like the Galaxy A52s. By launching a Galaxy A Fold or A Flip, Samsung would like to maintain – or even extend – its dominance in the folding device segment. Currently, it is estimated that the South Korean giant captures approximately 80% of the folding market.

Towards a launch in 2024

To lower the bill, expect the manufacturer makes some compromises. This model would opt for less powerful components and a lightened photo configuration. On the other hand, the basic functionalities reserved for folding models would be included. This model should not come on the market before 2024.

Until then, we will have time to discover the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 while hoping for a price drop. Since the birth of these series, Samsung has tended to reduce the entry ticket in order to make its range more accessible.
