Sony has just announced the new sales figures for the PS5, which far exceeds the 10 million copies sold.
Sony’s PS5 has been on the market for almost a year now. Indeed, November 19 will mark the first anniversary of the console still called “next-gen” since it is not yet on the shelves in a fluid manner. And yet, the PS5 sells, and even sells very well. Today, production still cannot meet demand and Sony is struggling to keep stocks for more than a few seconds on reseller sites.
The firm, which has just updated its figures, announces that the PS5 has sold 3.3 million copies between July and September, which brings the total sales figure to 13.4 million in less than a year. This is a giant leap for the firm, whose gaming branch is the most profitable according to its financial results.
These impressive numbers are not only linked to the expectation of players for almost a year, but also to the many exclusives released just before or during this time, with topping the list Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Deathloop, Kena Bridge of Spirits or the Director’s Cut versions of Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding. A few days ago, Xbox admitted that it was inferior to Sony when it came to successful exclusive franchises.
However, it may still seem difficult to get hold of a copy in complete safety. This is why we advise you to take a look at our PS5 buying guide, with our tips for not missing the console.
Apple Music is coming to PS5
Since October 27, PS5 owners can install and use the Apple Music application directly on their console. This feature had been the subject of many rumors last week, when some already saw the logo of the application appear when they created an account. This time, the news is official and Sony announces it with great fanfare in a press release.
Apple Music subscribers will therefore be able to “ enjoy over 90 million songs, tens of thousands of carefully curated playlists, 4K music videos, live Apple Music Radio broadcasts with hottest hits, classics, and country, as well as personalized playlists based on your musical preferences. “
As with Spotify, users will be able to listen to their music on the app or in the background, while launching a game at the same time. Small bonus, they will also be able to watch videos in the background, which the competitor of Apple Music does not offer.
Indeed, if Spotify has allowed itself to hold the monopoly of music applications on PlayStation consoles, it is now the end of a reign for the firm which will have to share the stage with Apple Music. However, we note that the feature is only available on PS5 at the moment, so all PS4 users will still have to go through Spotify to listen to their music while playing.
