Sony would consider recruiting the actress of 50 Shades of Gray to play a new Marvel character.
The rumor swells on the other side of the Atlantic. As Sony continues to develop its Spider-Man related cinematic universe, Deadline announces that Dakota Johnson would be considered to play Madame Web. After Spider-Man: No Way HomeSony Pictures continues to weave its web, and must recruit to establish itself durably in the audiovisual panorama.
The actress, who we saw in the trilogy 50 shades of gray, in which she played the main character, should thus play one of the emblematic characters of the Spiderverse. Madame Web, is a professional medium who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 in 1980. Suffering from myasthenia gravis, she is paralyzed and blind. Her husband, Jonathan Webb, designs a life support system that includes a series of tubes shaped like a spider’s web. This machine will thus offer her gifts of telepathy and clairvoyance that she will put at the service of good. She will never really take part in combat, given her advanced age. It will rather serve as a guide for Peter Parker.
A re-reading of the character?
The feature film should therefore take another direction, plunging it into the heart of fights that we imagine spectacular. This new adventure should be directed by SJ Clarkson (Jessica Jones). The director will thus be the first woman to direct a Marvel film at Sony. Note, however, that another project is currently under consideration at Sony Pictures. Olivia Wilde (Booksmart) could put in images a feature film Spider Woman.
Moreover, the two projects could be intimately linked. On glossy, Madame Web is introduced as Spider-Woman’s grandmother. We can therefore imagine that it will be for Sony to offer us a little trip in the past to discover the origins of Cassandra Web, before exploring the destiny of her granddaughter several decades later.
The list goes on for the SPUMC
In May 2020, Sony formalized the name of its universe dedicated to the weaver of webs. After the DCEU and the MCU, it was the SPUMC that came out of the ground. A vast project for the studios, which hold the rights to adapt characters related to Spider-Man. This is how was born Venom, first and second of the name. The next meeting is scheduled for March 30 next with Morbius.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the film will star Jared Leto as a mad scientist trying to find a cure for his illness. But his experience will go wrong, and he will gradually turn into a bloodthirsty and ruthless creature. A film about an anti-hero, on the border between action and fantasy.
