CD Projekt Red presents the future of The Witcher franchise with a new saga dedicated to the witcher.
CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the franchises Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher, has great news for fans of the latter. Indeed, the studio has just formalized a new saga of games The Witcher, in a succinct and stunning statement. It must be said that since 2015, CD Projekt has made more efforts to sustain the third opus of the franchise than to offer truly innovative content.
Never mind, the situation will soon be corrected with several new games on the way. In its message, the company explains that everything is already under development. But in addition to that, it seems that the studio has teamed up with Epic Games for an indefinite period, but which will last several years at least:
“We are happy to announce that the next installment in The Witcher video game series is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise.
It’s an exciting time as we transition from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It not only covers licensing, but also the technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, if any. We will be working closely with the developers at Epic Games, with the main goal being to help adapt the engine to open-world experiences.”
An open world powered by Unreal Engine 5
No witcher in Fortnite therefore, but rather a collaboration behind the scenes since Epic Games will thus make CD Projekt Red benefit from its in-house graphics engine. This one had already presented its performance in a technical demo almost a year ago. CD Projekt Red is therefore abandoning its in-house engine for this solution that is surely more advantageous for everyone.
Besides that, we have no more information on the content of these new them, except that they will be playable in the open world, just like the previous opuses. It is not the visual that accompanies the announcement that will reveal much to us.
On the other hand, we also know that The Witcher 3 will soon be entitled to its next-gen version, by the end of the second quarter if all goes well, and that a DLC inspired by the Netflix series is also on the way. We must therefore keep an eye open for other announcements in the months to come.
