The console that will succeed the Switch is a “major concern” according to Nintendo

How to make a transition between the Switch and the next console?

Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo, believes that the console that will succeed the Switch is intended to be a “major concern”. The group does not want to repeat what happened between the Wii and the Wii U, with the first one having a great success and the second for which it was complicated.

“Unlike in the past, we continue to have a wide variety of games planned, even beyond five years of release. This is because the launch of the Nintendo Switch was smooth, allowing us to focus all of our development resources on one platform.”explained Shuntaro Furukawa. “However, whether we will be able to transition from Nintendo Switch to the next generation of hardware just as easily is a major concern for us. From our experiences with the Wii, Nintendo DS, and other hardware, it’s very clear that one of the biggest hurdles is knowing how to easily switch between hardware.”he added.

Nintendo therefore seeks to mitigate the risk and relies on “long-term relationships with our customers”. This includes offering new games and services that rely on Nintendo Accounts. “We intend for this to help build a lasting impact with our customers”says the president.

When will the Switch 2 or a Pro model be? The president of Nintendo said nothing about this during the meeting with investors. But who knows, maybe The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will be a trigger to have the new console. The game was recently postponed and will release in the spring of 2023.
