House of the Dragon had the best start in HBO history. Indeed, almost 10 million viewers were tempted by the first episode of the event series. By way of comparison, the last episode of Game of Thrones aired to 13.7 million viewers.
The first reviews had set the tone, announcing a worthy successor to Game of Thrones. It seems that the public is already at the rendezvous. According to HBO, they were 9.986 million in front of their television (or other screen) to follow the start of the spin-off of the cult series. While we thought the saga was dead on the small screen, House of the Dragon therefore made the best start in the history of the American channel.
“It was wonderful to see millions of Game of Thrones fans come back to Westeros with us last night”commented Casey Bloys, chief content officer for HBO. “House of the Dragon features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their hearts and souls into the production, and we are thrilled with the positive reaction from viewers. »
House of the Dragon succeeds and goes down in history
If Game of Thrones had to wait a little before meeting the same success, its final episode had all the same gathered 13.7 million viewers simultaneously. Including SVOD streaming services, that number jumps to 19 million. For the time being, this first episode therefore seems to alleviate the fears of some regarding the future of the saga of Georges RR Martin on the small screen.
