Some Internet users no longer have access to their Ameli account after the blocking of the France Connect service.
For a few weeks already, a good number of Internet users have noticed that it was no longer possible to access the Health Insurance site by identifying themselves via France Connect. Usually used to connect to various public online services in a secure manner, the protocol indicates a “technical maintenance“, without further explanation. In its edition of August 31, the newspaper The chained Duck gives a very different version.
According to the paper weekly, which cites a confidential letter to which it had access, the deactivation of France Connect on the Ameli site follows a major computer security breach. The Health Insurance Department would thus have sent a letter to the Interministerial Digital Department (DINUM), in charge of the service, warning of a voluntary removal of access to the service on its portal, until the reinforcement of service security.
FranceConnect, what is it?
Launched in 2014, France Connect takes over from the Idénium digital identity project. At the time, he aimed to allow Internet users access all online public services via a single identifier. Eight years later, the service has been widely deployed, but is still struggling to impose its use on everyone.
Too much risk of scams
Among the risks mentioned by Ameli, the organization relies in particular on fraudulent telephone calls and emails, posing as France Connect and promising a refund of an overpayment. The hackers then manage to convince their victims to transmit their social security number, as well as the identifiers necessary for their authentication on the health insurance site. A well-established method, which can have serious consequences: via France Connect, a malicious person can not only change the bank details used to receive reimbursements after medical care, but also potentially access all the online public services of a internet user.
In the meantime, Ameli remains blocked
For those who have opted for authentication via France Connect, impossible for several weeks already log in to their Ameli account. The situation is becoming urgent, but the Health Insurance refuses for the moment to comment on this blockage. It remains to be hoped that things will soon be restored.
