the organizers have very bad news for you

Contrary to what was planned, E3 2022 will not take place online and has been completely canceled.

Gamers around the world are aware that E3 is an unmissable event to keep informed of upcoming video game releases. Nevertheless, after 2 difficult years due to the pandemic, the organizers once again find themselves in trouble. If the physical event, which normally brings together thousands of people in Los Angeles, has not been held for 3 consecutive years, in 2022, we were to be entitled to an online edition, just like in 2021.

However, it seems that in the end the ESA decided to change its plans at the last minute, and to cancel the show altogether. As you will have understood, there will be no E3 2022 this year. This information comes to us from some exhibitors at the event, who have allegedly been notified by email of the cancellation of the show. This is the case of Will Powers, the press officer of the Razer brand.

We are awaiting official confirmation.

For the moment, we still do not know what would have motivated the ESA to make such a choice. Indeed, several reasons are possible. The first, and the most obvious, concerns the concern around the Covid-19 pandemic, which is picking up again despite numerous vaccination campaigns across the globe.

The second reason concerns the increasingly marked absence of certain publishers, such as PlayStation or EA, to name but a few. Each year, it’s an opportunity for some studios to unsubscribe from this kind of event which tends to group everything together and therefore put all the announcements on the same level. The purpose of an announcement being to stand out, many prefer to hold their own solo event, a few weeks before or after the big show.

What to expect from this summer?

To be sure, we will have to wait for confirmation from the ESA, which has not yet expressed itself on the subject publicly. Despite everything, the cancellation of E3 does not necessarily mean the forced retirement of video game announcements. As said above, you can find many individual events, starting with EA Play Live, Sony’s State of Play, Ubisoft Forward or Nintendo Direct. As for the Xbox and Bethesda conference, no one knows what will happen, it is usually held in the heart of E3.

Players can also count on the Summer Game Fest, presented by the famous Geoff Keighley. This one usually lasts longer than E3 itself and is full of interesting talks. However, we do not yet have the dates of the show, which will be held online.
