PS5 vs PS5 Digital Edition et Manettes DualSense

The PS5 remains behind the PS4 in sales volume, with 3.3 million copies sold on the Q3

The shortage of components is also measured in numbers. Despite stratospheric demand for new consoles next gen (new gen now), the PS5 fails to do better than its predecessor. Sony published its results for the third calendar quarter, and the delay on the PS4 is confirmed: 3.3 million PS5 were sold between the months of July to September, which remains below the 3.4 million PS4 sold at the same stage of life cycle. Since its launch, the PlayStation 5 has therefore sold 13.4 million copies, against 13.8 million for the PS4 (at the same stage).

PS5 falls short of PS4 scores, lag largely due to component shortage

If the PS5 does not break sales records, on the other hand Sony Interactive Entertainment records a record turnover for the period. The Sony division achieved a turnover of 4.9 billion euros in Q3 and an operating profit of 628 million euros (800 million in 2020), despite a drop in sales of first-party games (7, 6 million against 12.8 million in 2020). 62% of the 76.5 million PS5 games sold over the period are via download. PlayStation Plus now has 47.2 million subscribers and the PlayStation Network has a total of 104 million active users (-4 million over one year). Video games (hardware + software) still remain the main financial engine of the Japanese giant.

Sony Interactive Entertainment expects a turnover of 22 billion euros for its fiscal year (ending March 31, 2022) and an operating profit of 2.4 billion euros.
