The end is near for The Handmaid’s Tale, which has just been offered a sixth season on Hulu.
In a few days, Hulu will unveil season 5 of its hit series The Handmaid’s Tale. The series adapted from the novel by Margaret Atwood written in 1985 quickly established itself as a reference for feminist dystopias. Broadcast on OCS in France, it met a large audience of fans of the genre.
This new season is therefore particularly awaited, especially since it should sound like the beginning of the end for our characters. It is on September 14 that it will be possible to discover this new burst of episodes.
As a reminder, the series plunges us into the near future where the combination of environmental pollution and sexually transmitted diseases has led to a dramatic drop in fertility. The “Sons of Jacob”, a politico-religious sect took advantage of this to seize power.
While men have taken power, women are now classified into three distinct categories. Wives are the wives of leaders and senior officials. The servants are only used for reproduction. They are ritually raped every month by the husband of their house to make them pregnant.
The narration of the series particularly follows Defred, camped by Elisabeth Moss. This new season is expected to further explore his journey. However, we will have to prepare to say goodbye to him soon.
One last season
Deadline reports that season 6 which has just been ordered will be the last. For Hulu, it is therefore time to say goodbye to this global success. The president of ABC Entertainment and Hulu wanted to salute the course of the series created by Bruce Miller.
“Almost five years ago to the day, The Handmaid’s Tale made history by becoming the first platform-produced series to win an Emmy. Since then, it has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with some of the best creatives in our industry. (…) We hope the fans will enjoy these last two seasons.”
Not the end of the adventure though
Rest assured, exploring the world of The Handmaid’s Tale not quite come to an end. Hulu is already working on a spin-off, set after the grand finale of the parent series. baptized The Testamentsit will also be adapted from a book by Margaret Atwood.
Fifteen years after the events of the series, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead still has a stranglehold on power. But there are signs that it is rotting from within. The novel follows three very different women whose fates will converge with potentially explosive consequences. We will probably have to wait a bit to find out more about this mysterious project. In any case, Hulu does not intend to let the license sleep for long.
In any case, meet as soon as next september 14 to discover the first episode of the season 5 on OCS in US+24.
