Series Star Wars Disney+

the series and films that will soon arrive on Disney+

Disney + intends to provide us with Star Wars series in the years to come. Many projects are being created for the platform. Some have already delivered a lot of information, while others are still very mysterious. In this file, we take stock of what awaits us in the future.

Star Wars Series Disney+

Marvel and Star Wars are the two breasts of Disney+. Mickey’s firm relies heavily on the saga created by George Lucas to attract crowds, and it works. We’ve already had two series set in this universe, The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, but there are many more planned!

Disney has started many projects lately. Some are already well advanced, while others are still in pre-production, or have possibly been cancelled. In this file, we will take stock of the series planned on Disney+ as well as their status. Of course, all of this is subject to change according to the platform’s announcements.

Series already released

Disney+ already offers several Star Wars series on its platform. We can already enjoy the first two seasons of The Mandalorian (2019 and 2020) as well as its spin-off The Book of Boba Fett (2021), which is actually a direct sequel.

Animation series have also been created for Disney+. We can thus evoke season 7 of The Clone Wars (the previous six are also available on the platform) as well as its spin-off The Bad Batch.

At last, Star Wars Visions is an animation series that leaves the field open to Japanese creators. She does not include herself in the canon, which does not prevent her from being sympathetic.

The series planned by Disney +

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi Wan

Obi-Wan Kenobi will tell us the adventures of the eponymous Jedi Knight during his exile on Tatooine, ten years after Revenge of the Sith. Ewan McGregor resumes here his emblematic role of the prelogy. Hayden Christensen will also return as Anakin/Darth Vader. This is a long-awaited series by fans. Since Disney’s takeover of Lucasfilm, rumors of Obi-Wan’s return have swirled around the web. This burst of episodes is therefore a nerdgasm for many.

  • Broadcasting date : May 25, 2022 (first episode).

Andor

Andor

Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is a rebel spy fighting against the Empire. Appeared in the movie Rogue One, he will have the right to his series. Obviously, it will take place before the events of the film. For the moment, Andor does not have an official release date, however, the filming has been completed so the series should be broadcast during the year 2022. A season 2 is already planned by Disney, which shows the confidence of the studio in his character.

  • Broadcasting date : during 2022.

The Mandalorian season 3

mandalorian

Flagship series of the Star Wars universe, The Mandalorian will have the right to its season 3. If we don’t yet know what she’s going to talk about, everything suggests that it will revolve around the fate of the planet Mandalore. The series is currently filming. We don’t know when it will arrive on Disney+, but we shouldn’t expect it before the end of 2022 at the earliest.

  • Broadcasting date : end of 2022 / beginning of 2023.

Ahsoka

Ahsoka is a fan-favorite character. Appeared in The Clone Wars, Anakin’s former apprentice took her first steps in live-action in season 2 of The Mandalorian in the guise of Rosario Dawson. She will finally have the right to her series. If we don’t know exactly what it’s going to be about, a few clues suggest that she will continue the story of Star Wars Rebels : Ahsoka goes in search of Ezra Bridger, disappeared in the confines of the galaxy with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Let’s bet that the writers will be able to speak to those who have never watched the animated series.

  • Broadcasting date : 2023.

lando

lando

Lando Calrissian is a cult Star Wars character who appeared in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) as Billy Dee Williams. In the film Solo (2018), we discovered the smuggler in his youth, played this time by Donald Glover. He will resume his role in a dedicated series. No details on his script, but we can hope to come across known faces from the universe, like Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich in the 2018 film) or Chewbacca.

  • Broadcasting date : unknown at the moment.

The Acolyte

Acolyte

A very mysterious series, since we know little about it. The Acolyte is headed by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) and will take place at the very end of the High Republic, shortly before Episode I. Its title suggests a series dedicated to the Sith. So it should be dark.

  • Broadcasting date : unknown at the moment.

The Bad Batch season 2

Badbatch

The Bad Batch animated series will get a second season. Like the first, it will tell us the adventures of a troop of elite clones who decide to desert during the advent of the Empire. It’s about from a spin-off of The Clone Wars.

  • Broadcasting date : unknown at the moment.

A Droid Story

Droid Story

Another animated series, but this time dedicated to children. We know very little, except that she can count on the presence of R2-D2 and C3-PO.

  • Broadcasting date : unknown at the moment.

Rangers of the New Republic (cancelled?)

This series was supposed to be a spin-off of The Mandalorian and evoke the fate of Cara Dune. We would have followed the heroine in her adventures during the period of the new republic. However, lead actress Gina Carano’s controversial stances caused Disney to shelve the project, even though it has yet to be officially canceled. We could see it reappear sooner or later in another form, but for the moment, it seems to be off to a bad start.

  • Broadcasting date : unknown at the moment.

New Star Wars movies are also planned

Disney isn’t just relying on its platform to keep Star Wars alive, since new films are planned for the cinema. The studio has a habit of launching a lot of projects at the same time, and many of them are abandoned along the way.

So far, several have been announced. Thereby, Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi) is still working on his own trilogy featuring a new story and original characters. If we haven’t had official information for a while, it would still be in the cards. Some rumors, however, whisper that the project would have been buried, but Disney has not confirmed anything.

Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) works on a Rogue Squadron movie. It should theoretically be the next to be released (2023), but rumors point to a complicated production and its arrival should be delayed.

Rogue Squadron

Other projects are in the works, as a film produced by Kevin Feige (the boss of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) as well as a film directed by Taika Waititi. The two projects could be the same, in reality. Once again, it is difficult to decide, Disney remaining very nebulous. Note that another film project by David Benioff and DB Weiss (Game of Thrones) had been in the making for a while, but was abandoned.

There is no doubt that multiple other films are currently being considered by Disney, but have not been officially announced. You will have to be patient before discovering all this in the cinema or on Disney+.
