the Video Games Festival celebrates its 10th edition in Paris

From September 28 to October 3, Press Start, the Bpi’s video game festival, is devoting its 10th edition to the relationship between music and video games, in all their forms.

Grab your guitar, brandish your ocarina and put on your best dancing shoes, it is to music that you are invited to explore the video game worlds, their culture, their actors and their professions! For a week, teeming with encounters, performances, workshops and demonstrations, the Bpi invites you to discover the heady melodies and timeless rhythms that punctuate the world of video games.

The music in the video game is not just a matter of soundtrack, it is a whole experience, even a gameplay element in its own right. Whether or not video games are considered an art, its music did not wait to enter the field of academic research. Music, but not only, since more broadly sound, sound effects, voice, all contribute to the gaming experience.

Which gamer has never hummed the soundtrack to their favorite game or added their favorite soundtrack to their playlist? Who can say that the gaming experience is the same with and without sound, not to mention the multitude of games that base their gameplay on rhythm or music? And who suspects the multitude of professions and sound technologies that are hidden behind a game? It is to answer all these questions that the Press Start festival returns with a program entirely dedicated to VGM (video game music).

Like every year, Press Start is first and foremost about playing! The Bpi gives you the opportunity to discover or rediscover independent, experimental or mainstream video games, alone or in a team, on PC, console or terminal. Throughout the festival, mediators accompany you to make you discover some nuggets of the video game.

Press Start is also an opportunity to discover the professions, the economy and the players in one of the most creative industries of the 21st century. On the program: meetings and round tables, to dissect video game news with professionals in the sector.

Press Start is also the discovery behind the scenes of video games and therefore the possibility of understanding how they are made. On the program this year:

  • introduction to game design with Mécanicards, in 2 parts: September 28 and 29 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • creation of a video game and its music during a “Click and create” workshop: September 28 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., October 1 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and October 3 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
