these smartphones want to play in the big leagues

Realme officially presents its 9 Pro and 9 Pro+ models. These two mid-range smartphones arrive in Europe, with the firm intention of shaking up the competition.

As expected, Realme presented its latest range of smartphones at a global event. France is concerned by this announcement and it is good news; because the 9 Pro and 9 Pro+ models are quite promising. The Chinese manufacturer, which is experiencing strong growth on the Old Continent, wants to hit hard with its first launch of the year. Realme offers us two models with a “chameleon” design; including a 9 Pro+ which claims the title of first mid-range device to offer a Sony IMX766 OIS module.

9 Pro +: a mid-range with a premium lens

Spearheading this new series, the Realme 9 Pro+ is an ambitious mid-range model. The brand is adopting a premium orientation for its smartphone, emphasizing the photo component. The device comes with a module made up of three sensors: a main 50-megapixel wide-angle (f/1.8, Sony IMX766 OIS), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (f/2.3) and a 2 megapixel (f/2.4) macro sensor.

During the presentation of its smartphone, Realme returned at length to the photo capabilities of its 9 Pro+. In addition to offering a solid configuration, the manufacturer relies on several technologies to improve the experience and accompany the Sony IMX766. Its model is equipped with ProLight Imaging technology which includes dual OIS and EIS stabilization; as well as active noise reduction technology 3.0. For Realme, the 9 Pro+ offers “the best image quality of any mid-range smartphone”. It’s even compared to premium devices for night shots, like the iPhone 13.

The 9 Pro+ also emphasizes Street 2.0 mode for taking long exposure photos, adding filters or accessing peak & zoom.

Realme does not only bet on the photo

The photo is not the only argument of this Realme 9 Pro + which combines a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen in Full HD + with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a brightness of up to 1,000 nits. This model adds a fingerprint sensor under the screen, which also acts as a heart sensor. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G chip and adds 6-8 GB of RAM. The amount of storage reaches 128 or 256 GB, but it is not expandable via microSD. A steam cooling system is present.

Still equipped with a 3.5 mm jack, the Realme 9 Pro+ includes a 4,500 mAh battery. It is compatible with SuperDart 60 W fast charging, giving the smartphone the possibility of recovering 50% of autonomy in 15 minutes. Allow about 45 minutes for a full charge.

Rather classic in appearance, the device is thinner than its predecessors with a thickness of 7.99 mm. It comes in three colors (blue, green and black) and its main curiosity comes from its “chameleon” effect. In the blue version, it offers a photochromic design that changes color in sunlight or under ultraviolet rays. There are also dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. Protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, the 9 Pro+ does not, however, offer any IP certification.

9 Pro: more affordable and still focused on 5G

With the 9 Pro, Realme offers an even more accessible variant. This model takes up the basics laid by its big brother, with however some differences. It inherits a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G processor which still benefits from a cooling system. The brand recalls in passing that its range has dynamic RAM (up to 13 GB).

Also affected by the “chameleon” photochromic design is wiser in photography. It has a more classic 64-megapixel main sensor, further supported by an ultra wide-angle (8 Mpx, f / 2.3) and a module dedicated to macro (2 Mpx, f / 2.4). This trio accesses the same modes as the 9 Pro+, including Street 2.0.

5G compatible, this Realme 9 Pro has a 6.6-inch IPS LCD screen in Full HD + at 120 Hz. Finally, a 5,000 mAh battery compatible with 33 W fast charging is present.

Both smartphones feature the latest Realme 3.0 user interface, based on Android 12. During its announcement, the manufacturer promised two years of operating system updates.
