This Dreamworks mascot finally signs his return to the cinema!

After her own Netflix series, this figurehead from Dreamworks studios will return to cinemas in 2024.

While Puss in Boots returns to point the tip of his muzzle at the cinema on December 21, Dreamworks studios continue to dig into their reserve of cult characters. We would all like to see the return of Shrek to the cinema, but before that, it’s Po the panda who will have the right to his fourth film. The Kung-Fu Panda franchise has never lacked success and it has continued to delight young and old alike through numerous spin-offs and other animated series. The latest is also available on Netflix since July 14.

Although this sympathetic series makes it possible to quench the thirst for humor at Po, it is in all its cinematographic splendor that we long to find the prodigy of kung-fu. Indeed, the Dreamworks series are often far from the animation standards established for large productions and Kung-Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight does not escape this defect. This is in March 2024 that the martial arts specialist hero will return to the front of the stage in a film with almost guaranteed success given the reputation of the license.

When the apprentice becomes the master

The announcement of the film caused a stir after a tweet published by Dreamworks on August 12. Fans can’t wait to reunite with Po and his friends, but what can we expect after the fan-favorite conclusion of Kung Fu Panda 3 ?

Movies Kung Fu Panda were made with the aim of being self-sufficient. In 2016, on the occasion of the release of the last film in the franchise, directors Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni explained their desire to make them works in their own right:

We don’t want these movies to leave an impression of an open ending. We want them to feel like a completed journey.

However, this has not always been the case. Before the release of Kung Fu Panda 2, the former president of Dreamworks Jeffrey Katzenberg had said that all the films of the license were planned as two separate trilogies. We should therefore have followed Po as an apprentice and then as a master. Thus, the announcement of this animated feature film could cover a whole new trilogy rather than a simple episode 4. Apart from the release date, no other information has been revealed about this fourth installment. Despite everything, this news gives balm to the heart and we can’t wait to discover the new adventures of the number 1 panda in pop culture.
