Twitch, YouTube and Facebook Gaming record record audiences in 2021

The three platforms alone have accumulated 653 million hours of weekly views on live content.

Streaming is on the rise. According to the latest report from the analysis company Stream Hatchet, live broadcasts have exploded in recent months, to the point of signing a record year for broadcasting platforms. In 2021, Internet users would thus have accumulated nearly 653 million hours watched per week, split unevenly between Twitch, YouTube and Facebook Gaming. A trend that is largely on the rise, since the company estimates a growth of more than 21% compared to last year.

Twitch takes the lead

Unsurprisingly, the giant Twitch is doing the best. Despite the massive leak that occurred last October, the platform still represents 71% of total hours viewed, or just over 463 million per week in the last year alone. Nothing surprising, when you know that the company is the first – and still the only – to be exclusively dedicated to live streaming. With an arrival on the market in 2017, YouTube is still struggling to establish itself, especially among regular gamers and professional streamers. The subsidiary of Google, however, has nothing to be ashamed of, since it records excellent audiences on its Shorts.

On his side, Facebook gaming remains in the background, despite a free cloud gaming offer, and a record year, Mark Zuckerberg’s platform has not yet risen to the level of the competition. No doubt she prefers to reserve her cards for her metaverse.

Minecraft, Rust and GTA V in the lead

Historically dedicated to the live broadcast of video games, the platforms are particularly popular with open-world fans. At least that’s Stream Hatchet’s finding for 2021. Open-world games are by far the ones that generated the most audience, starting with Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V and Rust which racked up 4.28 billion hours of viewing last year. Behind them, we find unsurprisingly the battle royale Fortnite, Garena Free Fire, Valorant, PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Warzonewhich have accumulated almost a billion views.
