Ubisoft plans big for the future of the franchise Assassin’s Creed : if the plans for the Infinity project, a kind of large and somewhat nebulous game hub, were revealed some time ago, now new rumors are reporting by another title expected for this end of the year… A new game much less ambitious than its predecessors.
An aperitif while waiting Assassin’s Creed Infinity
The project started as an extension for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the latest installment in the franchise, set in the snowy plains of England and Norway. But instead of becoming yet another DLC, this adventure will finally take the form of a standalone game. However, we should not expect a title with the ambition of Valhalla or even Odyssey—the game’s frame, considerably reduced, would have roughly the size of one of the regions of these last two games, according to the report of the site Bloomberg.
Still according to the American site, the release of the game would be scheduled for the end of 2022, or at the latest at the beginning of next year. Its lesser ambition would serve to compensate for the expectation of the project Assassin’s Creed Infinitythe new direction planned for the franchise, whose arrival is not expected for quite a while.
According to sources from the Eurogamer site, this new game would take place in the city of Baghdad, without further information, and should follow the origins of the character of Basim, seen for the first time in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Unsurprisingly, Ubisoft declined to comment on Bloomberg’s report—but given the sieve that the publisher’s development pipelines represent, we would be very surprised if this rumor was not proven.
As for the episode Assassin’s Creed Valhalla released in November 2020 (already), new big additional content is expected next month. Title Dawn of Ragnarok, this excursion into Norse mythology will put the player in the shoes of the God Odin—just that—who has gone to the rescue of his son Baldr, the latter having been kidnapped by none other than the fire giant Surtr. This DLC, described as the most ambitious to date by the development teams, is expected for March 10.
