Windjammers 2 finally announces its final release date

After several years of waiting, Windjammers 2 has finally settled down a release date—For good, we hope. Initially expected for this year 2021; the game of the French by DotEmu will have finally made arcade lovers wait a little longer. The frisbee games will finally take place shortly after the end of the year celebrations, during the month of June.

Winter will be sport

January 20, 2022: the date is now official for the return of one of the greatest arcade games in the history of video games. Windjammers 2 will be available on all current platforms, namely PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, but also PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S via backward compatibility and Google Stadia. Not to mention the PC version on Steam, of course. As previously announced, the title will be available on the Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass subscription service. And on day one, please.

This suite is in the right line of the Windjammers original released in arcades in 1994. The cult hit of Data East featured frisbee duels with a particularly nervous gameplay requiring as much sense of strategy as sharp reflexes. After being ported to PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita in 2017 and Nintendo Switch in 2018, the French DotEmu teams have announced the production of a sequel intended for current consoles.

Ten athletes, one frisbee

Windjammers 2 changes very little the original formula, but does add several new playable characters, each with their own characteristics. The cast now stands at 10 athletes and as many different archetypes, with unique special moves (called EX Move) to gain the advantage during matches. In addition to local multiplayer, online multiplayer will allow crossplay matches between Xbox and PC consoles on one side, and PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles on the other.
