Zelda Breath of The Wild 2 won’t be released this year

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will not be released this year.

Expected for this year, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 won’t come out right away. What was to be the biggest release of 2022 has just formalized a delay of several months. Nintendo confirmed the bad news on its official Twitter account, via series producer Eiji Aonuma. In a short video, he explains: “We have decided to extend the development time of the game and bring its release date to spring 2023. We would like to apologize to those who were planning to play it this year”.

Released in 2017 alongside the Nintendo Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild quickly established itself as one of the biggest successes of the console, to the point of still doing today benchmark against titles released in 2022like Pokemon Legends Arceus. Announced during E3 2019, the continuation of the adventures of Link was logically eagerly awaited by fans around the world, especially since the Japanese studio had so far been very stingy in content, with a last trailer dating from E3 2021.

No Link for Christmas

While the whole world hoped to find Link and Zelda on their console before Christmas 2022, it will obviously take patience. With this postponement, the entire Nintendo catalog for 2022 is upset. The line-up of the year relied heavily on Breath of the Wild 2, and should now settle for just one announced blockbuster, namely Pokemon Purple and Scarletexpected by the end of the year.

Players can also take advantage of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 later in the year, and as of today excellent Kirby and the Forgotten World, one of our favorites of the moment. Next month, we will also have to count on the return of an unexpected license with Nintendo Switch Sports, the great successor to Wii Sports. To see Hyrule again, see you in the spring of 2023.
